Katie Duval is an Associate in the International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution practice group based in London. Having trained with the firm, Katie qualified into the International Arbitration and Projects, Engineering, and Construction team in 2016. Katie's practice focuses on high-value, complex, international commercial disputes in both international arbitration and English Court proceedings.

Katie's international arbitration experience includes:

Acting for a subsidiary of a publicly listed multi-national in an ICC arbitration regarding a failed public M&A transaction in South East Asia in the construction materials sector; Acting for a South East Asian State in an LCIA Arbitration against a European multinational regarding non-payment under a satellite contract; Acting for an African Central Bank in a high-value LCIA arbitration against an African communications company concerning the fraudulent procurement of a technology project; and Acting for the minority shareholder in an LCIA Arbitration against a multinational telecommunications company in respect of issues arising out of a telecommunications joint venture in West Africa.

Katie's litigation experience includes:

Acting for a Global Fortune 500 Company in high-value cross-border litigation in multiple jurisdictions in connection with guarantees, including successful proceedings before the English Court of Appeal and in proceedings before the Supreme Court; Advising a multinational energy company in relation to a substantial criminal investigation into alleged complicity in violations of international humanitarian law; Representing the subsidiary of a major offshore drilling contractor in relation to proceedings commenced in the High Court; and Advising the employer in respect of a mixed-use residential and retail development in London in relation to issues arising out of the termination of a contractor's employment for delay, including advising on successful settlement proceedings.

Katie also has an active pro bono practice. Through the firm's work with the Royal British Legion, Katie has represented service personnel before the War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation Scheme Tribunal. Katie successfully acted for the respondent war widow before the Court of Appeal in Deakin v Secretary of State for Defence [2019] EWCA Civ 571.

Katie's other pro bono matters include:

Representing the family of a deceased in an ongoing inquest into her death in a care home in the UK, which raises issues concerning the shortcomings of the standard of care provided; Representing the Claimants in proceedings commenced against the Attorney General of St Vincent and the Grenadines in respect of infringements of their constitutional rights arising out of domestic laws criminalizing same-sex sexual intimacy; Acting for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Extraordinary Rendition in reviewing documents produced by the U.S. Government to determine the UK's involvement in extraordinary rendition and the use of Enhanced Interrogation Techniques by U.S. authorities; Assisting adopted children to give written evidence to Ireland's Commission of Investigation into the Mother and Baby Homes; and Successfully representing a "care leaver" in bringing a complaint against a local authority for breaches of its statutory duties under the Children Act 1989 for failure to timeously settle her immigration status.

In 2017, Katie was awarded the firm's citizenship award for providing training to Balkans' lawyers in how to bring actions under international law against gender-based violence. In 2018, Legal 500 UK described Katie as, "an extremely hardworking, focused and able solicitor."
